Here are photos of the world's first solar drag race that was held on June 25, 2005 at the Confluence Technology Center in sunny Wenatchee, Washington.

It took 46.5 seconds to cover the 250 meter distance, A NEW WORLD RECORD! Jim reached a top speed of 17 mph.

Other solar vehicles were there for the kids too.
This solar powered go-kart has a 300-watt electric motor that has a 24-volt battery that is charged by the 165-watt RWE Schott solar module mounted on top. This go-kart, driven by 11-year old Denali White, does about 12 miles per hour.
